Techfluff.tv and Smartula

Hey folks, just dropping a quick info update:

It looks like we’re already doing a good job as I was contacted last week by Hermione Way @hermioneway and asked if I’d like to contribute to techfluff.tv’s international coverage of the global twestival event!  Sweet.  Techfluff is sponsored by uk.TechCrunch.com, and the video will be broadcast on all their affiliated sites, Facebook, YouTube, and naturally Techfluff.tv.  So please come prepared ‘ready for your closeup’ as I’ll be floating amongst the crowd and asking you, and you, and you, and you for a short interview about Twestival! :)

And to be fair, that’s not entirely true.  When I say floating amongst the crowd, I really mean movin’ mah booty through the crowd, as my good good friend Smartula has agreed to DJ the event for us this evening.

His bio reads like so:

Bringing his unique sense of intelligent music for the masses to Vienna’s audience, DJ Smartula rocks not only the decks, but also ventures beyond ‘traditional’ DJing, and often includes live remixing into his one of a kind performance.

Through his active perception of music developed as a teen, Smartulas personal influences reach back to the 80’s and can still be found as themes or vocals melted into his today’s electronic adventures.

in other words….this guy sounds like butta.  Check him out on MySpace.

I’ve also created a Facebook group for the TwestivalWien event.

Remember, if you plan on attending, and would like to (hint, hint….please DO!) make your donation to charity:water in advance (and save me some headaches regarding bank transfers and cash), please purchase your TwestivalWien tickets directly via amiando.com.

Looking forward to meeting you all this Thursday!

TwestivalWien tickets now available

Posted on: 4 February 2009 at 1456 - Comment

Hi all!  Just a quick heads up that tickets are now available for the Vienna Twestival at Amiando.  A ticket to the event is not required for entry, but I would highly encourage you to purchase one (or two or three) for the following reasons:

  1. The money collected via Amiando goes directly to charity:water and is 100% safe and secure
  2. ‘Sold’ tickets will give me a better idea of how many people to expect at the event
  3. Purchasing tickets online will reduce the administration efforts on my end (think receipts, dealing with the bank when transferring raised funds, etc…)

There will of course be the opportunity to donate in cash during the event, but again, purchasing your tickets online via Amiando is preferred.

In addition this this being a great Vienna tweet-up for a great cause, this is also your chance to bring home some goodies.  Throughout the night we will be running a raffle for

So start collecting those 2€ coins under the couch, and give ‘em a good home by helping charity:water.  Who knows you might walk home with one of these goodies next Thursday night.

Should you so choose, you may also confirm your attendance at the TwestivalWien Facebook Group.

Location Secured - werkzeugH

Posted on: 21 January 2009 at 1611 - Comment

Welcome back Vienna tweeple!  The past 24 hours has seen some rapid advancement in getting this party rockin’!  Many thanks go out to Thomas Fuchs for suggesting werkzeugH as the location for TwestivalWien.

I met up with Thomas, Amy, Dieter, and Joe (aka the letsfreckle.com team) at werkzeugH last night to watch the Obama inauguration, (check out their super spiffy Twistori inauguration edition) and really enjoyed the space.  Very open with just the right amount of lighting, plenty of cozy nooks to sit down and discuss global domination, and conversely lots and lots of nice table space to hold larger discussions at.  And best of all, they’re already set up with some juicy free wi-fi, and multiple projectors. Yay!  Coincidentally, Ritchie Pettaur from datadirt.net was floating about, and he provided the intro to Manfred, the man in charge.  Thanks Ritchie!

If werkzeugH sounds familiar to you, I recently discovered that they’ve had a ton of BarCamps there, and you’ve probably already been there at some point.  If not, werkzeugH is located at Schönbrunnerstr. 61 in the 5th district.

We’ve already received a few donations in the prize department, and I’ve got to say – I just might enter myself in the raffle more than once, as a couple of these need to be filed under ‘DO WANT’.

I’ve also received some info regarding the ticketing system for the event from Twestival organizers.  I’ll be setting the account up and will post details ASAP.  As I agreed with Manfred last night, we do not want to hold the door, as this will not be a private event.  Meaning – the bar will be open to all those that normally visit this lokal, but this ticketing mechanism will serve two purposes:

  1. Provide us with an estimated head count of how many people will be attending
  2. Allow you the participants to make a donation to charity:water ahead of time in a safe and secure environment.

As far as tunage goes – I’ve secured one DJ for the night, and might even (time permitting) step up to the wheels of steel myself, but the door is wide open for any and all other musical performers – just shoot me an email at twestivalwien@gmail.com.

Alrighty then.  That’s where we’re at thus far.  More updates to follow as news breaks.

Twestival Wien!

Posted on: 19 January 2009 at 1704 - Comment

So here we go all…let’s make this official, and get this party started.   Twestival – a tweetup supporting a great cause.  Not only an opportunity for the Vienna Twitter community to meet up in person, but make a difference at the same time!  What’s not to love?

My name is Dan Taylor, but a lot of you already know me as @MountainDan. Upon learning of Twestival, I immediately noticed that Vienna was not being represented, and decided to do something about it. With that said, I’ll be the first to admit: my German language skills are a bit lacking.  But fear not, Ich kann fast alles verstehen, it’s just my response in German that gets a bit tricky.

Over the past few days, I’ve gotten a few hot leads on some locations that might be suitable for the event (hat tip @smartula), but am actively looking for suggestions.  Remember, an ideal location should be able to provide us with wifi access, a projector (or two, or three) to broadcast twestival events, a decent, but not overpowering soundsystem, and most importantly: liquid refreshment.

I work with a Viennese company, fatfoogoo.com, and they’ve already promised some support, either financial and/or prize/raffle options, and we’ll also be working with Mirjam (@miadonna) from groops.at.

If you’re interested in sponsoring the event (or know companies that are), or helping out in any way please send me a direct message @MountainDan and/or twestivalwien@gmail.com.

More updates to come…stay tuned!
